The community of Watrous is fundraising for a new daycare for the town.

The daycare facility will be built brand new to ensure the safety regulations can be kept.

Brendan Manz is the Community Development Officer. He talks about the need for a new building.

"We realize that the rules and regulations when it comes to running a daycare and managing it and building it, there's some very specific rules within the Government. For that reason, we decided that, instead of trying to retro-fit an existing building, or trying to dual-purpose building, it would probably be easier just to do a new build."

Since the summer of 2015, the Watrous Daycare Committee set out to fix a glaring need in Watrous, a lack of a licensed daycare.

The Committee has raised around $30,000, but would like to raise even more.

"A group of local parents came together about a year ago to put together a Community run daycare," Manz continued. "It's one thing that we don't have in our community. We are a growing community and it's one thing that when people do come to us and want to move here, they ask 'where's the licensed community daycare?' and that's  something we don't currently have."

Manz describes a contest being run by 800 CHAB, and an event being held next week.

"CHAB is going to be coming to our community on August 11th, on Thursday, we're having a fundraising barbeque at Centennial Ford. We've decided to partner up with them, they've been great hosts for us in the past. So they'll be broadcasting live on location, and we're encouraging people to jump on discovermoosejaw.com and vote for Watrous."

The Watrous Daycare Committe is hoping to raise $100,000 for a new daycare facility in the community.
