Following a few years of fundraising initiatives, a group in Kelvington was able to invest in the community's swimming pool.

A liner was purchased and installed prior to the opening of the pool for the summer season.

Over the past five years, the group of ladies has been raising funds to help improve the pool's efficiency.

"What we usually did was paint the cement year after year, and it was becoming deteriorated to the point we thought we had a crack in the foundation," explained Chairperson Tammy Lowey. "Before it got any worse, the suggestion was to get a liner put in that would stop that from happening."

The liner was purchased for around $180,000, with close to $200,000 being raised in total for the equipment.

Lowey says that the community hosted many events over the past few years, which helped the dollars add up.

"We brought the RCMP Musical Ride to Kelvington in 2013, so that was a big help," she said. "A lot of local support with businesses and campaigning them with donations year after year, and they're more than willing to help out."

Going forward, Lowey says that they will continue raising funds for the pool, with their eyes set on other upgrades.

"We're looking at installing water lines and stuff like that. We are trying to get it updated to it will last a little bit longer in our community."

Lowey says that the pool is operational throughout the summer, typically opening in early to mid-June, and closing prior to the September long weekend.
