A workplace accident near Archerwill in January of 2015 has led to a large fine against an employer.

Echo Lake Farms Limited, based in the Rural Municipality of Barrier Valley has been ordered to pay $20,000 after a worker lost both his hands. They pleaded guilty to violating provincial health and safety rules.

In Wynyard court last week, it was reported the worker had both hands amputated after a machine made contact with overhead power lines.

The company admitted there was not a safe distance between the worker and the lines.
