The City of Humboldt officially has two people running for re-election in October.

Roger Nordick announced in a statement on Wednesday that he will be running for another term on City Council.

"I'm pleased and honored to announce my candidacy for councilperson in the City of Humboldt," stated Nordick. "During my past term as city councilor I've gained an understanding of the complexities of city government, including its capabilities and limitations."

Nordick believes that as a returning councilor he can be a valued member of the city's plans moving forward.

Having served as a firefighter for 43 years, Nordick says that he has gained invaluable people skills that have allowed him to connect strongly with the community to determine needs and desires for Humboldt residents.

"Issues we face shall continue to balance fiscal responsibility with sound judgment," he said.

Nordick cites a long-term vision and secure financial planning, including roads and infrastructure, growth issues such as affordable housing, flood issues, waste related lagoon and landfill matters, as well as a safeguarded potable water system with built-in capacity for future growth.

He says that over the last four years, council has worked to provide a better life in Humboldt and area, with a guided "Our Humboldt" strategic plan set in place.

"I look forward to a positive campaign, meeting citizens and tackling challenges," Nordick concluded.

Nordick joined council after securing enough votes in the 2012 election.

Larry Jorgenson has also joined Nordick in announcing he will be seeking another term.

Jorgenson says through his Facebook council page that he hopes to continue moving ahead with their plans.

"Councils never leave office with all of their work finished so we need some continuity going forward. With Mayor Eaton's leadership we set a strong path that we can hopefully stay on or improve on."
