Humboldt crews have been working since midnight to clear away the 20 to 30 centimetres of snow that fell over the weekend.

And they may have to start all over again, as an additional five to 10 centimetres of the white stuff was forecast to fall Monday.

"So plows are trying to make their way through the priority system, but we may have to go back to the beginning of the priority system if we get a large accumulation of snow again," public works director Peter Bergquist told Bolt FM.

The priority area includes Highways 5 and 20, the downtown and the hospital. The city has two plows in operation, one it owns and one it contracts.

The biggest challenge for plow drivers is navigating parked cars and narrow roads where they can't pile snow in the centre or the side of the street, Bergquist said.

Residents can help by giving graders space to plow roads as quickly as possible, and Bergquist said he appreciates people's patience.

Humboldt sees a snowfall like this about once a year, he said.
