Development for the 2017 crop in the Humboldt area continues, with harvest expected to begin by the end of the month, according to Saskatchewan Agriculture's Weekly Crop Report.

The report, which is issued every Thursday throughout the spring, summer and fall, says that producers have also indicated that crop yields will be about average.

Topsoil moisture conditions are improving in the area, with three percent rated as surplus, 75% adequate, 21% short and one percent very short.

Crop damage is attributed to strong winds, hail, localized flooding, lack of moisture, and insects including diamondback moths and bertha armyworms.

Across the province, two percent of the crop has been combined, with three percent swathed or ready to straight cut. The report says that those figures are in line with the five year average. Thus far, all harvest progress has been done in the southwest and southeast.
