The rain was welcomed in Saskatchewan as many reports of grass and stubble fires have been reported lately due to the dry conditions.

The dry conditions have made growing difficult for hay and pasture lands, also causing topsoil moisture conditions to decline.

However, 35 percent of the crop is now in the ground, which is ahead of the five-year seeding average of 32 percent.

In the west-central region 26 percent is in the ground while 28 percent has been planted in the northeast, and 24 percent in the northwestern areas.

Producers are busy seeding, spraying and moving cattle currently.

To date, 33 percent of the spring wheat has been planted, 39 percent durum, 23 percent barley, 15 percent oats, and 26 percent canola.
