Some schools within the Horizon School Division need an expansion after taking in more students than they can hold.

As a result, the Horizon School Division is looking to claim three portable classrooms for Humboldt Collegiate Institute, Humboldt Public school, and Wadena Elementry in the future. Wadena Elementry school will be the first to receive a portable classroom as the exact date of construction is undetermined.

Kevin Garinger, the director of education with Horizon School Division, stated the population at Wadena elementary has grown to a point where the classroom is necessary.

"Ultimately it allows us to make sure our kids have a facility that is conducive to their learning and supports the growth we see in these communities. Also, if things change down the road there is the potential of having that portable, which can be utilized in other locations," Said Garinger.

The cost of the portable is around $300,000 from a fund which makes capital investments for schools that teach First Nation students. HCI and HPS will receive their portable classrooms on a later date.
