It has now been over three months since the City of Humboldt began collecting garbage and recycling through a curbside pickup program.

The city is pleased to see that the program has been going smoothly during the new transition for residents.

Councillor Roger Nordick shared some tips to keep in mind during your weekly service.

"We remind residents not to place glass or Styrofoam in recycling bins, as these are items that are unacceptable recycling material," he explained. "Also ensure proper cart placement for pickup by placing your carts one to two feet away from the curb and four feet away from any objects such as a parked vehicle. Overfilled bins will not be picked up."

Nordick says that they have seen an impact through having recycling bins at each household in the city.

"Since the program began, recycling volumes have increased and contents are much cleaner, which has a positive effect on waste collected at our landfill, as well as reduced sorting costs."

A weekly rotation is maintained for pickup, with recycling one week and garbage the following week. Households south of Glenn Hall Drive have pickup each Thursday, while those north of Glenn Hall Drive are serviced on Friday's.
