With less than two months until Humboldt votes for a new mayor, preparations are being made to ensure everything is ready to go.

Items on the checklist include finding workers for voting day on October 26. Applications for the paid positions are being collected by the city right now, says Clerk Sandra Pauli.

"Some general requirements are that we ask that you are 18 years of age or older, are a resident of Humboldt, and are available to work on election day from 8:30am to completion of the ballot count, which could be as late at 10:00pm."

The deadline to apply to work on election day is end of day Wednesday.

An election also needs qualified candidates to run for the to be vacant Mayor position, as well as Council.

"On the day of the election, you have to be atleast 18 years of age. You have to be a Canadian citizen and a Saskatchewan resident. You have to have lived in Saskatchewan for atleast six months when you submit your paper, and you also must be a resident of the City of Humboldt," said Pauli.

As of post time, two councilors - Roger Nordick and Larry Jorgenson - have announced their intention to run for re-election.

No candidates for Mayor have officially come forward, though the nomination period doesn't open until September 7, running two weeks until September 21.

Nomination papers can be filed at City Hall or the Uniplex during the two-week period.

Like the past year's Federal and Provincial elections, there is advanced voting for those unable to find time on election day.

"First advance poll will be held Thursday, October 20, from 9:00am to 8:00pm and that will be held at the Uniplex," noted Pauli. "Another advance poll will be taking place on the Saturday, October 22, from 1:00pm to 7:00pm at Caleb Village."
