A new era starts today for the WHL Champion Swift Current Broncos. They've hired Dean Brockman to be their new Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations.

Brockman replaces Manny Viveiros who accepted a job this spring with the NHL's Edmonton Oilers.“The Broncos Personnel Committee was impressed with Dean’s ability to build and to maintain relationships with players, parents, staff, and community while at the same time getting the best out of his team,” said Broncos Board Chair, Trent McCleary. “We are looking forward to working with and getting to know Coach Brockman while we defend the WHL Championship and Ed Chynoweth Cup."

Swift Current will also have to replace Director of Player Personnel and Head Scout Jamie Porter who officially resigned yesterday.
Brockman will have the same duties as Viveiros in controlling the team's roster.
He was most recently coach of the Saskatoon Blades for two seasons compiling a record of 63-68-10-3 and missing the playoffs both seasons. The Blades had improved their record in each of his two years at the helm.

Brockman made his name in 17 seasons with his hometown Humboldt Broncos in the SJHL. He started as General Manager and Assistant Coach in 1997-98 before assuming head coaching duties in 2004.Over that time his teams made nine appearances in the SJHL final and won five times. They also won two RBC Cups as national champions and were runner-up once.
Brockman is a four-time SJHL Coach of the Year and twice represented Canada on the staff for the World Junior A Challenge.
