Sentencing has been handed out in the case of a St. Brieux man charged with killing a dog.

Calyb Hoffman pleaded guilty to charges on Tuesday morning in Melfort Provincial Court and was sentenced to a six-month conditional order which will be served in the community.

The 19-year-old was also handed one year of probation and has been banned from ever owning an animal.

Hoffman was also charged with break and enter, but that was dropped after being determined that he had permission to be in the home.

On December 28, Hoffman severely beat the dog, where it later died at a vet clinic.
