The New Democrats lost out to Brad Wall's Saskatchewan Party in the 2016 provincial election on Monday night.

Humboldt's NDP candidate Adam Duke said even though he didn't earn a seat in the legislature he doesn't regret the work he's put in over the past couple of years.

"It's a good learning experience, we had a lot of first time candidates, myself included," he stated during our election coverage Monday night. "We knew going in this was a rebuild and getting some young energy involved. There was some ridings that I thought that we would have had a shot at so I feel bad for some of our real good candidates that weren't elected tonight."

The Saskatchewan Party was elected once again for their third majority government winning 51 of 61 seats.

The Humboldt-Watrous MLA is Donna Harpauer who collected 75 percent of the votes, Duke was second at 20 percent.

He continued to say he was able to learn a lot throughout the election campaign.

"We definitely need to do a better job of speaking up for rural Saskatchewan. That's a message that I think our party is going to get out of this and I'm excited about having an opportunity to be part of a team that starts speaking up for Saskatchewan and rural Saskatchewan a little bit more."

NDP Leader Cam Broten was defeated losing his seat in Saskatoon Westview.

"This is my first campaign, it's not my last," Duke concluded. "Four years in life can take you a lot of places but I will always be speaking up for Humboldt."
