With the final hit of the gavel, Mayor Malcolm Eaton's last council meeting came to a close.

Humboldt's mayor for 10 years announced earlier this year he will not seek re-election.

Eaton spoke about the state of the future for Humboldt.

"I'm very, very optimistic. I've been very connected Provincially to what's going on in other cities, other communities, and I know our community very well, and we have a very strong, enthusiastic, progressive community here."

Eaton describes how he feels after it's all said and done.

"I have mixed feelings, you know I've certainly been this for a number of years and it's going to be a little different not getting ready for an upcoming council meeting. I kind of have mixed feelings about that, I guess it's just one of those jobs, or chores that I won't have to do anymore, but I'm certainly going to miss dealing with the business and the affairs of the city, and working with our staff and the other Councillors."

Eaton says what he hopes people will remember from his time in the big chair.

"I hope they look back and say that we did a lot of really good planning. It's been a real focus, very early in my term as Mayor, it became apparent that if this community's going to grow, we have to plan."

Unless certain circumstances arise in the Humboldt area, council will not hold another meeting until after the October 26th election.
