For ten years the Humboldt Fire Department, EMS organization and the RCMP have teamed up for an annual event to help raise funds for a number of local charities.

This Saturday they will host their 2016 Emergency Services Charity Event.

H-F-D Chief Mike Kwasnica explains how the fundraiser came about a decade ago.

"The fire department used to do a comedy night and the RCMP did a ball in the Fall. When their RCMP ball shut down we thought about combining the two and ten years ago it started and now we're at where we are today."

Tickets are available at the Humboldt Co-op C-Store until Friday for $40.

Kwasnica says the partnership between the three groups is rare and positive for them and the community.

"It's great, not every community do the emergency services work as well as they do in Humboldt. We do have a very close knit community and that includes emergency services. We do a lot of work together and just by doing this event once a year it kind of gets us all together and have a little bit of fun outside of our regular work."

They have raised over $100,000 for a number of projects such as the Water Ridge Spray Park, the skateboard park as well as the school zone speed signs.

Kwasnica said they haven't pin pointed a destination for this year's funds but they do have a couple projects in mind.

He concluded that the charity aspect is the reason they have the event but it's a night for them to step away from the high stress of their jobs of keeping the region safe and the residents protected.

"It's a good night to get together and unwind. Each one of our agencies has an on-call group in case anyone wonders so we do have the town protected but for the ones that can go out and have some fun it's a great evening."

During the gala each organization will present some awards as well such as service longevity and others.

There is also a meal plus entertainment and a dance.
