The Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce gets their annual Festival of Lights kicked off Friday evening.

Debra Nyczai, Executive Director explained how the festival was started.

"Festival of Lights started off in the campground in 2009, before that we used to do a Christmas parade in conjunction with the former moonlight madness but it was difficult for some businesses to put together the float so then the idea changed to the festival of lights and it's been successful ever since so we are grateful for the businesses who participate."

Since the festival's inception in 2009, over $9,600 has been donated to local non-profit organizations.

A silver collection is taken at the gate said Nyczai, "we do pick a different organization each year to give those donations to. The specifics are that they haven't been a previous recipient and it has to go to a specific project so this year the funds will go towards the Humboldt and District SPCA building fund."

Past recipients include the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation, JCI Humboldt, Humboldt and District Kinettes, Partner's Family Services, Humboldt Community Trails, and Safe Communities Humboldt and Area.

The lights go on Friday November 27th at 5pm and runs until January 8th.

There are 19 different displays set up so far this year, they do have a few spots left. If your business is interested in setting up a display contact the Chamber office at 682-4990
