The community of Wakaw, as well as Wakaw Lake Regional Park and likely sooner rather than later, the Rural Municipality of Hoodoo has a fire ban in place.

The warm dry weather is to blame.

Mayor Ed Kidd is worried about their ability to combat any blaze that could occur.

"It is quite dry here as it is in the rest of the province I understand but around here it is a very big area with the lake so we're really concerned that we don't have the resources if we get two or three fires all at once."

Kidd is especially wary this year, he says the conditions in their region are more dangerous than it was even last year when the province was ravaged by wild fires.

"I think we have less moisture than last year and it is a concern. We've already had a few fires and we really want to avoid that situation if we can."

No rain is expected in the foreseeable future, Kidd believes the ban will be in place for quite some time.

The town of Annaheim has also announced that until further notice the town will also be under a fire ban.
