With flu season around the corner, now is the time to receive your vaccine.

The City of Humboldt is holding a flu vaccination clinic on October 23rd and 24th from 2-7 PM at the St. Augustine Parish Centre.

"The vaccine is particularly recommended for certain populations who are at high risk of complications for flu. These include people with underlying health conditions, children who are between 6 months and 5 years of age, women who are pregnant, as well as people who are caregivers to any of these populations. So we recommend that those people and their caregivers take advantage of the flu vaccination program," said Julie Kryzanowski, The Senior Medical Health Officer with the Saskatchewan Health Authority.

Each year the influenza infection is responsible for deaths in Canada. The Vaccine reduces the risk of becoming infected and reduces the risk of transmitting the infection onto others.

"The common side effects with the flu vaccine include soreness or stiffness at the injection site that can be treated with warm compresses and/or pain reliever medication. Other people can feel fatigued, have some muscle stiffness or a headache, but that usually passes quickly. It's important to remember that the side effects of the flu vaccine are far less severe than the effects of influenza. so that's why getting the vaccine is the recommended option to protect yourself from getting sick, said Kryzanowski.

The Influenza vaccine is free and recommended for all adults and children.
