Occupant safety is in the spotlight for Saskatchewan Government Insurance throughout February.

Each month, the license issuer focuses on a different aspect of driving to keep awareness at the front of mind for drivers.

Manager of Media Relations, Kelley Brinkworth, says that occupant safety is about everyone.

"For adults, that means wearing seatbelts and for children and babies, that means making sure they are properly secured and making sure you have the proper seat for your child."

"When it comes to booster seats, the child has to be atleast 40 pounds to move into a booster seat. We always say, don't feel the need to rush into the next stage, because really the safest your child is ever going to be is in that five point harness car seat."

Brinkworth added that there are four car seat stages, from rear-facing to forward-facing, the booster seat and then a standard seatbelt.

She says that you should always check to ensure the harness straps are not twisted and that one of your fingers can fit between the straps and child.
