It has captured the attention of Canada.

A massive wildfire that broke out on Sunday near the city of Fort McMurray, Alberta, has strengthened over time, displacing the entire community of 80,000 people from their homes.

The worst, however, may not have come yet.

Forestry Manager Bernie Schmitte says the worst of the blaze is not over, and they're faced with a forecast of sunshine and 30, with gusting winds today.

Military assistance has been requested and is expected within the next couple of days.

Dry conditions across western Canada have led many areas to impose fire bans, including as of yesterday in our area, Wakaw, Wakaw Lake, the RM of Hoodoo, and Annaheim.

With a lack of moisture, conditions are favourable for wildfires due to dry, dead grass from the winter lingering, and new, dry grass growing for the spring.
