The federal and provincial government is providing a large amount of money for wastewater and sewer management for 11 communities in Saskatchewan.

The Towns of LeRoy and Watrous, along with the Village of Muenster and Quill Lake are all on the receiving end of the funding.

Ed Collins, Mayor of Watrous explained how they will use the over $2 million.

"It's been in the works for a bit, these things don't happen overnight so we have been planning a lagoon expansion and certainly this would add another cell to our lagoon and do some further expansion in regards to that."

Collins added that after this lagoon project is completed they will be set for many years to come.

Mayor of LeRoy, Brian Thoen said the announcement was good news for them since they were in desperate need of a new sewage pumping station.

"It's been a long time since we needed an upgrade, it's a 1965 model, one of the first ones put in," said Thoen. "the size of the community and with the RO wastewater going through it's just not full capcity, we need something bigger."

LeRoy will be receiving over $1.6 million towards their project.

Muenster will make sewer system upgrades with their promised $520,700, and Quill Lake is expanding their wastewater lagoon with their funds that total $734, 638.

The Government of Canada will provide up to $5,399,443 of the total eligible cost of $16, 198,338 for the 11 projects. The Saskatchewan Government will contribute $5,399,443.
