Environment Canada is issuing a special weather statement for much of southern Saskatchewan including the Humboldt region on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency Preparedness Meteorologist for Environment Canada John-Paul Cragg explains more.

"We issued that special weather statement because it looks like there is going to be large band of freezing rain across most of southern Saskatchewan starting Tuesday evening and working it's way overnight to the eastern portion of the province."

Cragg warns that the rain that could fall mixing with snow could be treacherous for commuters but on the bright side he said with plus temperature highs predicted overnight and the next couple days the effects could be somewhat limited.

The situation is expected to develop mainly along and north of the Yellowhead(Highway 16) highway.

Cragg explains that this isn't really rare to see rain warnings in the Winter months.

"From year to year there is often big leaps in temperature through out January where we get a bit of a thaw and then we get this big blast of air and then a thaw again and then a blast of air. This kind of back and forth is common in Saskatchewan."

This area of freezing rain is expected to push across southeast Saskatchewan after midnight into southwest Manitoba overnight into Wednesday morning.
