A new month begins with a return to colder temperatures in Humboldt and area.

Tuesday's wind storm is partly to blame for a new system being blown into the area, according to Environment Canada.

John Paul Cragg with the weather agency says that it's likely that this latest blast of cold air will linger for a while.

"What we have is a ridge of high pressure, but cold arctic air is also being dragged down into the province, and it looks like it will stick around for the first week of February."

Cragg says that following the movement of an Alberta Clipper on Tuesday, which brought warmer temperatures, the cold air naturally follows behind.

"In place of this up and down weather, we're looking at colder temperatures, which will bring a chance of seeing some extreme cold warnings issued."

The average daytime high will be in the low -20's, while overnight conditions will drop to or near the -30 mark.
