Quilts from the middle-eastern nation of Qatar and from Brazil are now temporarily residing on the long-arm quilting machine at Haus of Stitches quilt shop. They are two of the hundreds of quilts that have been donated to Wendy Toye and her team at her quilt shop.

Along with finished quilts delivered daily, Toye says the shop has been given quilt tops and supplies as well. The task of managing all of the incoming quilts and supplies has almost become a second job for the staff, with donations pouring in every day from quilters near and far.

"It's been helpful for us to heal, and for the people who've been sewing (the quilts), it's been very therapeutic too," says Toye.

Toye says her original goal was to have 29 quilts to give to the families and survivors of the April 6th Broncos bus crash. That number has definitely been surpassed. Over one thousand quilts have been collected and will be presented to the first-responders, medical staff, and the families and billet families affected by the accident.

"Quilts give comfort. That's what they're trying to do and say: Here's a hug," says Toye.

A deadline of May 18th has been given to receiving donations. Toye says if quilters in the area would like to continue to help, the best way to do that now is by donating their time and skills to put unfinished quilts together.

Toye hopes to distribute all of the completed quilts by mid-June.
