Beyond bringing conservation awareness to the forefront of guests' minds, there was one goal hoping to be achieved by Ducks Unlimited Saturday:

"Lots of fun, for one! That's what we try to do: promote fun!" says Manager of Events and Volunteers, Travis Behning. "We want (guests) to have fun, and know that their money is going to a good cause and it's getting used for a good cause."

The non-profit organization celebrated its 33rd banquet and auction in Humboldt Saturday and welcomed over 140 guests this year. Games, raffles, prizes and live and silent auctions all increased the evening's "fun-quotient".

The organization uses funds raised to protect wetlands, uplands, nesting habitats for waterfowl, and water in Saskatchewan and throughout the country.

"We are a conservation organization for water. What this money is doing is making sure we have those wetlands that filter out those toxins in our environment, and without those wetlands, we don't have clean drinking water; we don't have a sustainable resource", explains Behning.

The dedication of the 20 volunteers from the Humboldt area is always appreciated and recognized each year.

"Without the volunteers, we wouldn't last 5 minutes. We need the volunteers in order to run these fundraising banquets and make sure there's awareness about wetland conservation," says Behning.

Behning says he's thrilled to have a party like this in Humboldt.

"We just want people to have fun when they come to these events. It really shows (that they do), when they walk out with smiles on their faces and prizes in their hands."
