A donation made to the John Doherty Memorial Arena in Lake Lenore this past summer has since gone into creating The Dayna Brons Memorial Dressing Room.

A $5000 donation was made by Mosaic back on May 29th, 2018 to the arena in the hometown of the late Humboldt Broncos Trainer to create a girls only dressing room in her memory.

"We chose, with the help of the Brons family, to renovate a dressing room in our arena and make it girls only dressing room. It's a place where girls that are playing hockey can go and dress and feel like they have their own space," said Candice Bauer, member of the arena board in Lake Lenore.

Dayna, like many young girls growing up playing hockey, often are on the same team as boys. That can make changing and getting ready for games and practices difficult, seeing how many hockey arenas don't have female dressing rooms.

"Dayna grew up changing in every corner of the arena that was available to her. She had to change in bathrooms, or furnace rooms, and closets. The Brons family really wanted to see a dressing room dedicated just for girls, and that's what we did. We spent the money to make sure that girls have a place to get dressed."

The dressing room is lined in decals with motivational words to inspire the young girls and also memorialize Dayna.

"The front door has a beautiful blue and black wrap that talks about Dayna. The words that we put on the walls are all very motivational words, strength, commitment, dedication. We wanted to make sure that the girls felt powerful when they're in there."

A few girls have had the chance to use their brand new changeroom which was met with absolute jubilation.

"Some of the Muenster girls were the first ones to use it. They were so excited to see a space dedicated just for them. Just like Dayna, those girls that used it for the very first time, they had to change all year in closets and furnace rooms. These dressing rooms just aren't made available in other arenas. The Brons family is very excited about this renovation and it's exactly what they wanted to use the money for."
