Since 1992 the Humboldt Good Neighbour Store has been giving back to the community and this year was no different.

On Monday at the Bella Vista Inn, the GNS held their annual proceed dispersal event with over 30 different groups and organizations taking home substantial funding.

Chair Maureen Doetzel said they have 180 volunteers including board members that help operate the store, it takes about 20 volunteers per day to keep the second store in operation.

Board members include Sylvia Koski, Erma Weber, Marj Tameling, Anita Schiltz, Shirley Reiter and Syd Helmkay. They are joined by store coordinator Susan Young.

This year, with not taking a lot form their bottom line they upgraded the storage areas at the store as well as some painting and insulation work to make the store more comfortable for customers and volunteers. They also installed a new fire exit but even with the upgrades they still provided $283,000 in funding this year, in total over 24 years $2,559,000 has been turned around in the city.

The Humboldt and District Health Foundation was the biggest recipient during the day, they received $85,000. That increases their total funding from the GNS to almost $647,000.

"Here we are in east-central Saskatchewan with a store that accepts donations of second hand goods, has these goods sorted, priced and displayed by volunteers to be sold for a nominal price and then generously donates to organizations throughout the Humboldt district. We are so fortunate, what we would do without them? Simply amazing," HDHF Director Lorrie Bunko said in a news release.
