On Monday afternoon, the Good Neighbour Store kept their tradition alive of dispersing their proceeds to local groups and organizations as sort of a launch to the Christmas season in Humboldt.

This year the board was able to fund 42 organizations, splitting over $280,000 in the process.

Board Chair Sylvia Koski says they had a great year, therefore everyone benefits that much more.

"Yes, and we've done renovations as well so we've done really, really well this year."

During the presentation of funds, the board appreciates hearing from the benefactors and learning where the money has impacted their groups. Many spoke of minor and some what crucial infrastructure at their facilities. The list includes senior homes, libraries, playground communities, school programs and much more.

Koski says the GNS is a real gem for our city.

"It is very great, I don't know if other communities have anything like our store, our store was started in 1992 by Rev. Harry Rose. He was with the Anglican Church, and it grew through the churches and then it went on to what we have today. It was his vision and he had a good one."

Interested organizations can write to the board asking for funds, every year they take applications until October 31st and then the board is tasked with dividing it up as they see fit.

Last year they helped 38 groups so that increased as well. In total, the store has funded an astonishing $2,275,000.

Overall, the event is always special as Koski concludes.

"We just so happy that we can help so many organizations in Humboldt and surrounding communities.
