Always in the giving spirit, Monday was no different for Humboldt's Good Neighbour Store.

Thirty-eight organizations from the area were on the receiving end of a total of $274,000 from the store as they held their annual distribution of funds.

Board Chair Maureen Doetzel says that it's always great to help out others.

"It makes you feel really good that you can help all these people out. Especially the hospitals and the care homes, and the kids. The kids really need our help."

There was a wide range of organizations picking up funds, from those in the health care sector, to schools, libraries, and others.

This year's total brought the overall amount donated to over $2.8-million.

"The amount seems to go up every year. This year we are down a little bit from last year just with buying our building, having to pay insurance and taxes and so on."

Doetzel says that the importance of what they do in contributing to communities never fades away.

"I think there is always a need, and there is more of a need now than there has ever been," she noted. "It used to be that you would give a few thousand dollars away, but now it is getting to be big money. The hospital, for example, needs three or four thousand dollars a year just to keep going with their equipment."
