Susan Young has one word for the break-in at the Good Neighbour Store this week.

“Stupidity. They’re just being stupid. They were just there to cause mischief, whoever they are,” said Young, the store’s coordinator.

Humboldt/Lanigan RCMP were alerted by the store’s fire alarm Monday morning, she said.

When staff arrived to let in the police around 11 a.m., they discovered someone had broken in through the sorting room window along Main Street, she said.

The culprits stole a computer and the phone off her desk, and a tin of cookies.

They also sprayed a fire extinguisher in the the sorting room, which was what triggered the fire alarm. The items in the room were in bags, so they can still be sold, Young said.

The store’s video surveillance system was unable to provide footage of the culprits. Young declined to publicly explain the problem.

Several women worked to clean up the mess Wednesday morning before the store opened, she said.

She has yet to hear from police on the investigation, and she hopes someone saw something suspicious between Sunday afternoon and Monday morning.

Humboldt/Lanigan RCMP Cpl. Jana Brown said police have no suspects, and they ask the public for any information.
