For a quarter of a century the City of Humboldt has owned the building that the Good Neighbour Store resides, not anymore.

The volunteer driven second-hand store announced this week they have purchased the facility from the city.

"The big news was, we've leased the building we're in for the last 25 years, since 1992," explained GNS Board Chair Maureen Doetzel Saturday. "We just decided it was probably time we had some comfort in owning the building."

They had been in talks with the city since last fall but with the election in the middle of discussions the process took a little longer than anticipated but Doetzel says they had incredible support.

"They realized we've put a lot of money into the building since we've had it, we've put in over $300,000 in the last ten years. We just wanted some comfort that all of a sudden we'll be without a building."

They will now turn their focus to their next distribution event in December, the application deadline for funding for non-profit organizations is October 31st.
