Farmers have been combining tough grain for the past few days to get the crop off before winter arrives.

In the Northeastern region of Saskatchewan, farmers have been particularly frustrated with Mother Nature over the past month.

Due to wet weather, yield has varied in the area due to the moisture content with some places being better than others. On the other hand, the quality of the grain has not been ideal.

"Quality is the biggest concern. We've already had reports of bleaching, staining, as well as sprouting and of course, some of that standing canola as also shelled out," said Crops extension specialist, Shannon Friesen.

As a result of wet weather, only 45 percent of the crop is combined which 34 percent more than last week. Although that total is well behind the 5 year average of 73 percent.
