The Greater Saskatoon Catholic School division says that their doors will continue to be open to all following a court ruling on Thursday that says non-Catholic students can no longer attend Catholic schools.

Director of Education Greg Chatlain issued an open letter to families of the division, stating that although the answer to what the ruling means for families is long and complex, they will continue to accept all students.

"The decision is about funding. It does not state non-Catholics cannot attend Catholic schools," continued Chatlain.

An appeal of the decision is being considered by the Saskatchewan Catholic School Boards Association, as well as the Government of Saskatchewan.

Should that happen, it could be quite some time before a final decision is made in the already 12-year-old case.

The ruling - as it stands - is set to be imposed following the 2017-2018 school year.

Humboldt's St. Augustine and St. Dominic Schools are part of the GSCS. Humboldt Collegiate Institute is jointly operated by the GSCS and Horizon School Division.
