The Government of Saskatchewan released numbers on Wednesday that show more people are getting out to visit provincial parks.

Nearly four million stops were made at Saskatchewan's provincial parks in 2016, which is a new record. That was an increase of 108,000 visits over last year, with growth sitting at 32% since 2007.

Greenwater Provincial Park - a popular destination for those in east-central Saskatchewan, has seen steady growth over that time as well. The park saw just under 200,000 visits in 2016. While it is a minimal change over 2015, the past five years has seen a continued climb up in numbers.

The numbers used are total visits to the park, which includes recreation, as well as camping.

Applications for seasonal camping in 2017 starts on January 4.
