Excitement and enthusiasm are two words longtime MLA Donna Harpauer used to describe the opening of the legislative session on Tuesday, the first since the Sask Party Government was re-elected in April's vote.

Harpauer said there wasn't any real surprises with the Throne Speech to open session.

"We've committed to keeping those promises that we made just a very short period time ago and the three keys areas are keeping our economy strong, keeping our finances strong and standing up for Saskatchewan's interests. We feel that that is what the Saskatchewan people have entrusted us to do."

Among those promises includes fixing more highways, continuing with other infrastructure funding for the likes of hospitals and schools, expanding the two-for-one model of MRI's to include CT Scans plus reorganizing administration costs within hospitals to put more workers on the front line.

"Job creation is going to be extremely important in our province," Harpauer continued. "Premier Brad Wall has said that we're going to stand up for our province and our province's interests, we're not in favour of some of the direction other people are looking at which will be even harder on our resource sector in our province."

The Energy East pipeline proposal, as well as the Keystone XL pipeline are two areas Harpauer is referring to as those projects continue to hit road blocks increasing the pressure on a struggling oil and gas sector.

Those projects need higher approval, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau continues to halt the Energy East line, US President Barack Obama has yet to find reasoning to approve the XL line that would take crude oil from the sands of Alberta to the Gulf of Mexico.

However, with the political landscape shifting in Manitoba from the long time NDP power to the Progressive Conservatives, Harpauer says they are looking forward to a better working relationship with our neighbour to the east.

"We've done a lot of work with the New West Partnership of course with British Columbia and Alberta to align policies and regulations so that it makes it easier for our industries to operate in more than one province and bringing Manitoba into that can only be an asset to our industries."

As for her personal portfolio that comes with being the Minister of Social Services and Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Housing Corporation and Status of Women, she mentioned that they will work on simplifying systems to save money, she will look at implementing the poverty reduction strategy they revealed prior to the April 4th vote as well as focusing on early childhood support through education.

The budget will be tabled June 1st, Harpauer said this is one of the toughest years money wise in her time in the Legislature.
