The Humboldt Broncos have completed their second crack at their Seed for Green, Harvest for Gold fundraiser.

Ross Ruedig helped organize the initiative again this year.

"I just put it together, the other people do all the work," he said over the long weekend from the combine he was driving to assist another area producer this week. "We got it seeded around the end of May, we seeded barley this year and of course there is a lot of equipment needed to do an operation of a crop."

That's where the local agricultural businesses stepped up big time.

Many companies helped this year including Farmworld, Richardson Pioneer, Horizon Fertilizers, Co-op Agro Centre, Crop Production Services, KMK Sales, JayDee Agtech, Wacker Enterprises, Country West Trucking, Clayton Air Services and Cooperators, Municipal Hail and Hergott Farm Equipment.

Without them this initiative wouldn't work. In fact all the corporate sponsors are crucial for the team's viability as Ruedig explained.

"The Broncos are deeply embedded to the corporate sponsors of Humboldt, they all chip in somewhat and help the bottom line of the Broncos so they can ice a team there."

Ruedig couldn't specify what the crop will be worth to the team's bottom line, he added with barley it depends on whether it's a high enough grade for malt or if it sells at feed.

"It was a good harvest I guess, it came off quick. We're hoping for the best results, with barley it's always between malt barley and feed barley. Of course malt is a premium so we're hoping to make the cut there, I think we will."

Last year this fundraiser brought in $43,000 to the club.

Clark Knaus is the land owner, he signed a three year lease with the team this past year.
