Coming up Saturday and Sunday is the Lake Lenore Heatwave.

The event, which raises money to help upkeep the town's hall, rink and bowling alley is headlined by a slo-pitch tournament, beverage garden and lots of kids activities.

Mayor Scott Lessmeister says the event has grown since it's inception.

"The Heatwave has been going since 2005 when we kicked it off with the centennial of the province and it's been an annual event ever since."

"The main event on Saturday during the day is the slo-pitch tournament," Lessmeister continued. "There's lots of activities for the kids, we've got frog races starting at 2 o'clock, and the the kid's zone with bouncy castles, sand pit digs, horse and wagon rides, face painting, all kinds of stuff."

The bar-b-cue supper and big tent cabaret are big draws as well, they start at 5 o'clock and 10 o'clock respectively Saturday. The charge for supper is $13/adults, $7/children 5-12, under five id free. The dance is 19+, the cost is $10.

On Sunday they will have a mass service plus a pancake brunch.

The event is an important one for the town, not just financially as Lessmeister concludes.

"A lot of times school reunions and things like that get planned around the Heatwave, it's a good fundraiser but more than that it's a really good thing for community building. Everybody pitches in and it turns out to really bond everybody together."
