The City of Humboldt is taking strides to try and ensure as many people can vote in the upcoming civic election as possible.

For the October 26th vote staff has set up two days of advanced polls.

"The first will be Thursday, October 20th, that's going to run from 9am to 8pm right here at the Humboldt Uniplex in Jubilee A," explained Returning Officer Mike Ulriksen. "The 22nd, a couple days later were going to have one at Caleb Village running from 1pm-7pm so those will be the two opportunities in advance of the 26th."

They have also put a plan in place for residents that physically can't leave their homes. That is called "homebound voting" which is a new term for mobile polls.

"What we do on election day, we will actually align a time where I will come to the resident's house and take their vote in secret and that will be put into the ballot box to be counted like everyone else's," Ulriksen explained.

The deadline to set that up is this Friday, call Ulriksen a 682-2597 if you need that service, it's also open to anyone who cares for a resident that is unable to go out.

There is is no voter cards for this election unlike the provincial or federal versions but as for identifying yourself that is still similar as Ulriksen mentions.

"If you have a driver's license or a government issued photo ID that has your home address, not your box number but your home address, that's the only piece of information you need. If you don't have that then all we require is two pieces of information, both that have your name on it and one that shows your physical address here in Humboldt."

On election day polls are placed at the Legion, St. Augustine Hall and the Uniplex, voters can attend any location no matter where they live in the city. Polls are open from 9am-8pm.
