After a kickoff capital campaign was launched in January, the Watrous-Manitou Beach Heritage Centre is now over halfway to its fundraising goal.

Donations have been pouring in from businesses, residents, and other organizations to help form the building that will store the area's history.

A goal of $550,000 was set for a full year, and as of a recent board meeting in June, fundraising has surpassed the halfway point.

"The Heritage Centre fundraisers have spent the past few months approaching businesses. Not only were our volunteers offered wonderful encouragement for driving this worthwhile project forward, they also came away with financial support," noted Board Chair Kathy Bergen.

The Heritage Centre will operate out of the former SaskWater building on Main Street, once it is set up.

Following the initial campaign to the business community, donations are now being accepted from all individuals, with many volunteers set up during Canada Day weekend, as Watrous and Manitou Beach also held their homecoming.

"We thank those who have already donated, and look forward to meeting new donors in the near future," said Bergen.

Those looking to donate can receive a charitable tax receipt for donations over $50. Arrangements can be made through Bergen or the Town of Watrous.
