The Humboldt Emergency Relief Organization is going to get some help this year with their annual Christmas Bulb Campaign.

Viking Benefit Solutions has stated they will match the funds raised through out the November promotion.

Owner Doug Biehn talks about why they wanted to give back to HERO.

"We have been giving some thought to it for some time and trying to find some organizations within our community that we could help out. HERO was certainly mentioned at one of our board room meetings, I said hey, that's exactly what we're looking for."

HERO was launched in 1993 by members of the RCMP, fire department and ambulance to help provide financial assistance to people who incur uncovered medical expenses.

HERO is certainly close to Biehn's heart following the passing of his wife Shirley.

"We certainly used a lot of the services, we were fortunate to be able to one have maybe a benefit program that reflects what we do as a business and have the support of those programs as well as being able to financially be able to support those."

For $2, you can purchase a bulb, which is simply a paper ornament that you can add a name to if you choose. The next time HERO volunteers will be out is Saturday, November 19th at the Humboldt Co-op and then again on November 26th at Extra Foods. Both days will be from 1pm-3pm. They already sold the bulbs at Sobeys this past weekend which raised $348.

"There is a lot of people in our community that aren't as fortunate," Biehn continued. "That's what HERO is about, it's about helping those in need providing financial assistance for the things to do with their family. That message needs to be brought forward for HERO and we're very proud to be a part of that."

HERO serves the area in and around Humboldt including Middle Lake, Watson, Lanigan and Bruno and all centres in between.
