A sneak peek of what you can expect, as High School Musical plays at HCI.

The drama club at Humboldt Collegiate Institute is set to roll out it's latest production on Friday and Saturday, as their performance of High School Musical takes place.

Drama Teacher Glenda Lees says that it is a landmark year for the ever popular movie series.

"It's the 10th anniversary of High School Musical, so a really good year to be doing this. We have a really large cast. We have atleast 35 people that are involved really closely, but probably atleast 50 more students who have helped in some way or another."

Lees added that the play fit what they were aiming for in lining up a performance.

"Every year we look at something we can include a lot of students in. We have done a lot of productions in the past and we do a big one every year," she said. "The students specifically requested that we do a contemporary play this year. We looked at a lot of different things, and High School Musical really jumped out."

She says that the basis of the plot is one that you might find in common day schools.

"It's the story of a high school that is very typical in that it has groups of students and everybody belongs to a certain clique," she noted. "The whole idea of it is they break out of those cliques, and they end up being part of things like a musical, that they never would have done before."

Being in the high school theme, one of the performers, Tyson Greff, says that this year's show has been easier to get in character with the upbeat mode.

"The drama class, and especially the club, has never been a bunch to shy away from something like that, so I guess it is fairly relatable for most of us."

There will be three public showings, as well as a showing for 350 students from the Horizon School Division.

Openings to the public will take place with the first show at 7:00pm Friday. Additional shows will be at 2:00 and 7:00pm on Saturday.
