Saskatchewan's Finance Minister and Humboldt/Watrous MLA, Donna Harpauer, had a misunderstanding at a Pinehouse accommodation two years ago.

Donna Harpauer and her partner visited Pinehouse, Saskatchewan in  2016 for one day to go fishing and visit a camp for vulnerable families. Harpauer, the social minister at the time, was offered a place to stay in the village.

The accommodations were not in a hotel or motel of any kind and Harpauer claimed there was nowhere to pay for the room she stayed in.

"I asked who do I pay? They stated I had to pay nobody and I was their guest. I accepted that and perhaps I should have stayed there to pay someone," said Harpauer.

Regardless, a total of $159 was billed to the village of Pinehouse for the one night stay. The bill was not paid by anyone until the village was recently put under investigation for delayed responses to freedom of information privacy requests.

Since the discovery of the bill, Harpauer decided to pay the bill in full. Harpauer has also contacted the Saskatchewan Conflict of Interest Commissioner, Ronald L. Barclay, to ask him to provide information on the issue.
