Each year the Humboldt Aquatic Center shuts down for yearly maintenance. This year's period will occur from January 7th-25th, 2019.

"It's our way of preventing unwanted shutdowns throughout the year. We pick the time of year where we find it's the slowest for us and it gives us the opportunity to get in there and get a lot of work done. It works out well for us and our user groups," said Mike Ulriksen, Director of Community and Leisure Services.

The work that's done includes draining of the pool, touching up of the floors, painting, thorough cleaning, grout work and minor repairs.

"Basically it gives us the opportunity to brighten everything up so that it's good to use for the rest of the year. We also do things like send away motors to get refit and work on our filtration systems too. We've been doing this for years now, as long as I've been working for the city and well before that."

Just prior to the annual shutdown, the aquatic center will hold two holiday swims for the community on December 24th and December 31st. The holiday swims are $2 per person or $5 per family.
