The bylaw for all cemeteries within Humboldt was altered by City Council at City Hall on Monday.

Rates for the next three years for all cemeteries were increased. The changes were made to govern the rates for types of the headstones, digs, and more.

Some of the changes include:

  • $50 increase (each year moving forward until 2021) for lot purchase including; cemetery lots with foundations and cemetery lots with a foundation for an 18" headstone
  • $50 increase (each year moving forward until 2021) for grave opening and closing
  • $100 increase (each year moving forward until 2021) for columbarium interment
  • Infant plots, memorial plaques, and disinterment rates will stay steady over the next 3 years.

"As a city, we have to have a bylaw surrounding our cemeteries, but it is important that the community has knowledge of this information so people make decisions that they need to based on the changes," said Mike Ulriksen, Director of Leisure Services in Humboldt.

The bylaw will be reviewed again in 2021.
