Humboldt Co-op teamed up with Colony Motors to deliver a much needed donation of food to the Humboldt Community Soup Kitchen. On Friday, June 3, around $1500 worth of non-perishable food items were dropped off to the Humboldt Gathering Place, which houses the Soup Kitchen. Todd Marcotte of the Humboldt Co-op and Kevin Plemel from Colony Motors were on hand to make the delivery.

The donation was much needed and greatly appreciated, says Kari Cenciosi, co-ordinator for the Humboldt Community Soup Kitchen. Since the COVID-19 pandemic impacted people’s livelihoods, more individuals have become reliant on the organization and its deliveries. In person meals stopped in April with the provincial gathering restrictions, and the organization is not sure when it will be back on an in-person basis at the Gathering Place.

“The donation will last for a wee while,” Cenciosi confides, “Unfortunately, we have between 90 and 100 people we are feeding twice a week and now sending hampers to because of COVID. Times are tough, and a lot of people who probably thought they’d never use us are coming to us to be fed.”

Even with the uptick in recipients, Cenciosi wants to make sure that no one feels left out, particularly the community’s seniors.

“We wanted to stress that seniors not be shy to get a hold of us. While there’s got to be some seniors in the community feeling strapped right now, they may not be of the nature to step forward.”

Meal deliveries happen on Tuesdays between 5:00 and 6:00 pm thanks to a squad of volunteer drivers. Lunches are delivered on Thursdays between 12:00 and 1:00 pm.
