The Humboldt and District Ambulance and EMS are highlighting their services this week as part of paramedic services week.

Derek Degenais, supervisor and advanced care paramedic in Humboldt explained what they have going on.

"One of the biggest things we're doing this week is a social media campaign on Facebook. Just educating the public about paramedics on what we do and how we do it, some of the tools we use and some prize giveaways," he said. "it's fairly interactive with people checking in on their and giving comments and  responding to the information and questions."

Paramedics week started on Sunday May 28th and runs until Saturday June 3rd.

Degenais said they are busy all year through, "Our numbers stay pretty steady, it really doesn't depend on day of the week, even time of the day we can see trends but our calls continue rain or shine."

Last year the Humboldt team responded to 1104 calls which consisted of 600 emergency calls, and 504 transfers.

The local team consists of 14 paramedics at various levels, they always have two ambulances on with four paramedics between the two ambulances.
