A story of immigration was the focus Thursday afternoon at the Humboldt and District Gallery as they hosted a local author.

Michael Pomedli, read from his publication, 'They Became Canadian' which tells the story of his grandparents and their transition from Hungary.

Pomdeli said the basis of the book came about when he wanted to get to know his grandparents better.

"Using a historical framwork of roughly between 1875 and 1945 and then letting my imagination go and writing stories about them and finding stories in actually Humboldt community, Bruno community, other places and I read many of the community books."

His local background is what brought him to Humboldt for the author reading, "I had one two weeks in Saskatoon which was very well attended at McNally Robinson book store which markets my book and I thought why not come to Humboldt, people might be interested so I've come here."

At the reading, Pomedli read from different sections of his book including a story on gypsy's, purchasing a car for the first time, and the wedding of his grandparents.

"They come to the homestead here in the area and then they reminisce, they recall their life in Hungary, so it's from this vantage point, so I move back and fourth from here to Hungary and back again," said Pomedli  as he explained the book in more detail.

The book is available for purchase at the gallery.
