The latest signing for the Wilkes Barre Scranton Penguins comes from the city of Humboldt.

Reid Gardiner signed a minor league deal with the team, who is the minor league team for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Gardiner says his time with the Prince Albert Raiders will be something he remembers fondly.

"I've been a Raider for 4 years, and I keep in contact with my billet family a lot, we're family friends with them so they've been very good to me which made it hard to say goodbye to them and the city alike. Especially the guys on the team, the coaches, the management, everybody has been really supportive in my 4 years, and all of the memories I'll take with me."

The 20 year-old centreman played his major-junior hockey with the Prince Albert Raiders, and had two previous NHL tryouts with the Minnesota Wild and Vancouver Canucks.

He describes how he used his two previous training camps as experience for his tryout in Pittsburgh.

"This year I kind of wanted to make a statement and prove I belong in the pro level. I thought I did that, so I think Minnesota and Vancouver were experiences I wanted to take into this camp and kind of become a man, not just a kid anymore. I want this to be my job for however long."

He talks about how it all eventually came together.

"It all kind of started at the end of June, at the NHL Draft. Pittsburgh approached my agent and wanted me to come to their development camp over the summer, and then the prospect tournament in London, Ontario in the middle of September."

Gardiner hopes to be in the lineup on Friday when the Baby Pens host the Springfield Thunderbirds.
