Humboldt residents are invited to take part in a peace run taking place Thursday morning.

The North American peace run began in New York earlier this year, and hit Canada back in June.

Saskatchewan Coordinator for the Peace Run Sutapa Adelman describes the journey these runners make.

"It's a long journey. It's not the same group of runners all the way but some of them are going for the full four month trek. Sometime some people come on the run for two weeks, or for a month, or for even one week."

The Peace run is to spread awareness to world peace efforts, and has participants all over the world.

Adelman explains how the run began this year.

"It started in Neww York in April. made it's way south through the United States, South and East. It dipped into Mexico, went up the West Coast and it entered Canada the last few days of June."

The run will start at Tim Hortons Thursday morning and will make its way around the city.

Adelman describes the Humboldt route a little further.

"It's a run that's stopping at three places on it's way to the Civic Park. It's stopping at PARTNERS Family Services, it's stopping at the Newcomers Centre, and it's stopping at the Humboldt and District Museum and Gallery. Anybody can join up with the run and pass the torch at those places."

Adelman describes the history behind the run.

"The Peace Run was founded by Sri Chimnoy in 1987, and he had this vision of this beautiful run all over the world with people passing the torch and so much inspiration and joy spreading. I guess that's just what we want to keep going."

The run takes place all over the world, involving 140 countries and over 10 million participants.

From here, the run goes to Foam Lake for the late afternoon.
