It is KidSport month throughout the month of May and the Humboldt chapter of KidSports is hoping to bring some awareness of the importance of the oganization in the community.

KidSport raises funds for kids who aren't fortunate enough to take part in organized sports.

"May is a nice month for us to reflect back on what we do and support kids in our community," explained Chair Mike Ulriksen.

Kidsport will be busy over next while with the summer season approaching.

"We are looking at doing some fundraising opportunities so we have done our compost pick-up over the last couple of years so we're looking at doing another pick-up here in the spring," said Ulriksen. "The spring has come a little quicker than we were ready for this year so we're hoping over the next couple of weeks to get that rolled out again and then again we'll do another one in the fall."

Ulriksen added that they will be looking to partner with different organizations around the community to assist them with their fundraising efforts as there is a huge demand within the City.

"Our resources for KidSport is actually down a little bit this year, as far as our revenue goes we're actually giving out more grants than we will be able to sustain long term."

Different community organizations have information on KidSport such as Partners Family Services, Community Services, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Newcomer Centre. Information is also available at the Humboldt Uniplex.

KidSport funds everything from karate to minor hockey to baseball to swimming lessons.
